Trunk Junk Quarterly is at it again with TJQ Issue Three in the final stages of production, and due to launch on 24 September. The team will be celebrating one year of being in the business with their “Until Death Do Us Part’ issue and as usual have made an effort to bring something special to their readers.

In saying this, all copies include: 120 pages of Trunk Junk, two large stickers, and an Art Park Journal #2. There are however, one hundred limited special packages available that include all the above, as well as a ‘Trunk Junk x Monaux’ lightweight, grey marl, cotton t-shirt.

As usual the magazine is packed with visually explicit content and inspiring editorial. Issue Three features, riders: Jimmy Roche, Tom Pelley, Ben Fawcett, Matt Gillings, Ben Currie, Mark Visser and more. Empowering Women Group Show

Shimmy on down to Commune Cafe between the 10th and 23rd of July to check out the Empowering Women exhibition. Hosted by Mrs Australia 2011 finalist, Lozen McDiarmid, the exhibition hopes to raise awareness to the situation of abuse against women in the community. The exhibition will conclude with an evening of speakers, entertainment and the auction of artwork with funds going to the Women in Need Foundation.

White Rabbits @ Rabbit + Cocoon

Thank you to everyone who came by the Rabbit and cocoon Sneak Peek and checked you the White Rabbits group exhibition by Flat White Spaces. For those who didn’t get to see the exhibition, the space will be open for viewing 6pm-8:30pm Friday night, 12noon-4pm Saturday and 10am-2pm Sunday. There are still some amazing works by local artists up for sale, starting at $20.

Flat White Spaces Exhibition No.1 launched and closed over the weekend past. Thank you to everyone who dropped by and supported the project, it was a wicked weekend and I’m looking forward to the next exhibition.

Retrospect Galleries – Now Open in Broadbeach

Original formed in Byron Bay, Retrospect Galleries has just expanded to the Gold Coast.

The new store has opened up in Broadbeach right across from Max Brenner. It is a great space, and rumors have it they will be adding a wine and coffee bar in the coming weeks. Its great news for the Gold Coast art scene.

Cardboard living

The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

Art is an interesting word. A R T – 3 letters that can justify a single brush stroke on canvas or the be the premise for a 10 story building. Below is a photo that I took of a set that a couple of my friends constructed for an ‘Anti packaging TVC’. The entire set was constructed out of recycled cardboard over two weeks. The attention to detail is amazing.

The TVC should be released in the coming weeks.

Step back to the 50′s

Finally the search for the perfect location was over once I discoverd the Country Womans Assocation building, hidden behind the the primary school in Brunswick Heads.
Built in 1940 the hall provided the perfect setting for the super 16mm short film to take place.
Below are a couple of stills taken behind the scenes on the day.

The film will be ready for release mid September 2010
